Stamford American School Hong Kong's Journey of Outdoor Education and Cultural Immersion

At Stamford School, we are committed to fostering a holistic educational experience for our students that transcs the traditional classroom environment. Recently, our Grade 9 and 10 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure through Chengdu and Yangshuo as part of their outdoor education program.

Cultural Odyssey in Chengdu

Our students explored the dynamic city of Chengdu, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and culinary delights. They savored authentic Sichuan cuisine, were mesmerized by Sichuan opera performances, and delved into history through visits to ancient sites that offered a glimpse into China's past. The highlight of their Chengdu experience was undoubtedly the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding, where they gned invaluable insights into conservation efforts med at protecting angered species.

Yangshuo: Nature’s Playground

Transitioning from urban culture to breathtaking natural landscapes, our students immersed themselves in Yangshuo. They embarked on invigorating hikes along the picturesque Yulong River, marveled at the awe-inspiring beauty of mountns and lush vegetation, and tested their adventurous spirit through rock climbing challenges. Traditional Chinese pnting lessons, kayaking adventures, and an exploration into Chinese tea culture completed a rich tapestry of experiences that offered both relaxation and excitement.

Tea Making Experience

During their stay in Yangshuo, students participated in a unique tea-making experience, learning the art of picking leaves from local plantations and delving deep into the fascinating world of Chinese tea culture. Guided by seasoned professionals, they embarked on each step of , from cultivation to tasting.

Cultural Immersion and Personal Growth

This journey not only provided students with a variety of new experiences but also cultivated resilience, adaptability, indepence, and stronger connections within their peer group and between students and teachers. It offered a supportive community environment that nurtured social-emotional skills alongside academic growth.
